When we get a pair of ski boots, coming to us for binding adjustment or tweak, they often turn up like this. Buckle’s all undone, straps open. So the first thing to do is always make sure your boot is lightly buckled up.

Remove anything that’s inside the boot, including sun creams, etcetera, because that can break down inside your boot and damage the liner. And all we’re gonna do is lightly buckle the boot up, so not too tight, just enough to keep its shape.

So now we have a ski boot lightly buckled up, and finally, we make sure the tongue is nice and set and straight. We don’t want that tongue being stored for months like that twisted. It will take that shape. So that’s the first step, boot nicely buckled up.

Second step is where do you store it? And you should never ever store it in the loft. Anywhere that has a change in heat or change in humidity. If your lofts loft, for example, is heavily insulated, it’s still gonna have a very high humidity.

That will break down the foam in these liners. We’ve had boots come in after the last couple of heat waves. We’ve gone like that with certain brands, and literally liquid is poured out. The foam breaks back down to its liquid form, and that destroys your liner and means our hands get very sticky as well.

So never store boots in a heat area of humidity or heat.

Underneath the bed, unless you’ve got Jack Russell, back of a wardrobe in a spare room is ideal, or even better, in my instance, next to the TV in the living room on display to show show your love of skiing. So when looking after your boots, quick recap, lightly buckled up, storm away from heat, and they’ll last you for many, many years.

Questions?
