1000’s of customers have trusted us to make custom footbeds for the perfect ski boot fitting over the past few winter seasons. However many do not realise that we can make custom insoles for other footwear and sports too, reducing the risk of injury and improving comfort…

Scott – The Skiers Lounge Owner

When skiers book a ski boot fitting at The Skiers Lounge, we undertake an assessment of their flexibility and biomechanics. Issues such as pronation, or suppination cause the foot to be unstable, and flexibility issues make skiing – and even everyday activities – more uncomfortable than they need to be.

The same knowledge, experience and equipment used to make ski boot footbeds can also be used to make footbeds for a variety of applications. Fitting takes around 30 minutes, and at the end of the fitting you will have a set of custom made insoles for your chosen footwear.

How it works

Simply book a footbed booking on our online booking system, advising which footbed you require. Bring the main shoes or boots you want to fit the custom footbeds in, as we will customise the shape at the end of the process to perfectly fit inside your footwear. If you require more than one pair of footbeds, we can do this using the same mould we have created for the first set easily, during the same appointment.

Prices for our Custom Footbeds including assessment and review appointment

The price below is for an assessment, selection and moulding of a custom footbed using stock from SIDAS or BOOTDOC depending on the use for the footbeds. If additional posting is required of the toe joints, stabilisation for the heel required, or a metatarsal dome for those with Morton’s neuroma is needed there may be a small additional materials charge. We also have a range of more advanced footbed options for those who are participating in sports at a high level and are requiring a more advance fit for an additional charge:

1 Pair of Footbeds – £120.00
2 Pairs of Footbeds – £200.00 (undertaken at the same appointment)

Footbed Options Available

General Purpose Footbeds for day to day footwear or leisure shoes

Multi+ Custom footbeds by SIDAS are ideal for a wide variety of footwear for general use – some of our staff use these in their workshoes – and for some light sports too…

Cycling Footbeds – Hobby and Professional options

When we are not skiing here, the team are cyclists in various disciplines from beginner to former world cup racer, and understand the importance of a custom footbed in cycling shoes especially when using clipless pedals. We have undertaken additional SIDAS training with bike fitting specialists to help us better understand how we can help cyclists, and also sell LAKE cycling shoes offering a measuring and fitting service too. We have a range of SIDAS BIKE options for custom cycle footbeds from general purpose support through to carbon fibre reinforced high performance options…

Golf Footbeds – Reduce the risk of injury on undulating fairways and improve comfort

A keen golfer, our owner Scott doesnt play without a pair of custom footbeds in his Footjoys. With unstable ankle ligaments and compromised left knee he often stresses or even rolls ankles on uneven surfaces such as golf cart paths or climbing out of the rough after another sliced shot. A footbed gives you more stabilty over the whole 18 holes, improved energy levels and more comfort. The footbed is designed to support the foot on the swing too, placing enhanced support on the balls of the feet which golfers shift weight onto as they complete their swing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I make a booking?
You can book a custom footbed appointment with us online on the links above, or if you have any questions please give us call on 01403 915 655 or contact us via our contact page.

Why are your custom footbeds lower price than orthotics made by my podiatrist?
There are 2 reasons for this, firstly we are not qualified podiatrists. We are trained by podiatrists, we see at least as many feet if not more than many podiatrists, so we do have a great deal of experience with most complications and solutions, but likewise if we see a pair of feet present requiring more in depth analysis and a course of treatment or specialist orthotic, we will tell you so! This happens maybe 1-2 times per season. The second reason is that as we sell ski boots (and many other wintersports products) we have invested over £20,000 in moulding equipment for custom footbeds. Most podiatrists will not be able to justify this and use a casting or moulding system, which is then sent to a central footbed manufacturer to make the orthotic insoles. This means a 3rd party being involved and this comes at a cost. We make all footbeds on site, and you should be leaving with them at the end of your appointment.

I have Planter Fasciitis, will footbeds help?
100% YES! A footbed will not only stabilise your foot and hold it in a more neutral position, in doing so it will relax stress on the inflamed tendons that are the root cause of the pain in a case of Plantar Fasciitis, and help aid recovery. We still recommend following any excercises you have been advised to do by your health care professional, and we also can offer excercises to help as part of your recovery from Plantar Fasciitis – or “policemans heel”

Once I have one pair of footbeds can I use them in a range of shoes?
We would recommend nominating a pair of shoes to have your footbeds put in, as they are cut to fit perfectly in your footwear. If the shoes are the same model and size, then yes you should be able to move them across, but for best results, we recommend you use your favourite footwear for your footbeds to be put in, and also use the sports specific models if you are cycling, running or playing golf.

Do you offer any kind of guarantees?
Everyone’s feet will react differently in a subtle way to footbeds, and its overwhelmingly positive. If you have followed our advice on how to get used to your footbeds over the first couple of weeks, and still having issues, you can book a follow up with us, and we will check that the footbed is correctly moulded and installed, and if neccasary we will remake the footbeds free of charge.
