Holmenkol BetaMix Red Ski And Snowboard Wax 150g

Season:Current

Brand:Holmenkol

Code:24111

Holmenkol Beta Mix is a high-quality hydrocarbon ski and snowboard wax designed for mid-temperature conditions.

This 150g option is supplied in a storage case with a lid to keep the wax clean when not in use. It is a firm favourite thanks to the smooth application and glide performance. This wax works well in most conditions, excluding spring or extreme cold, and is ideal as a base preparation layer for new skis or a complete ski or snowboard surface. Beta Mix also makes a great transport wax thanks to its resistance to abrasion.

The wax applies smoothly with an iron set to around 130°C and is easy to scrape. Excess wax is easy to identify and remove.

Features:

  • Versatile mid-cold wax for most winter ski and snowboard conditions.
  • Still easy to scrape off saving time and effort.
  • Comes in a handy storage box.
  • Contents: 150g wax block.

Who is BetaMix Ski Wax for?

This is one of the best waxes in our range, it's for those skiing varied European conditions or Canada/Japan Champagne powder. It makes a fantastic base prep wax too before applying your final wax thanks to its easy absorption into the bases. So, if you are servicing your own skis or snowboard make sure you have a block of this in your workshop.

Professional Opinion

“We’ve used BetaMix for years in our own workshops and my own home workshop too. I discovered it in Banff, Canada when trying to get my skis performing better in the crystal cold snow, and it was superb so I bought the shop's stock, came back to the UK and started selling it, and still do till this day. If you’re only buying one wax for a skiing holiday in Europe or for a Canada trip in cold but not ultra cold conditions, this is the one we’d recommend. It irons on cleanly, scrapes easily and lasts well, making it ideal for recreational skiers wanting excellent performance without race-level complexity. It's the hidden gem in Holmenkol's wax line-up and is fluoro-free too"

  • Can I mix AlphaMix, BetaMix and UltraMix?
Question asked by Frankie on 04/07/2026 12:11:28
YES! And if you are thinking that way you are becoming a skilled ski technician! This is exactly what race technicians will do, they will apply a mix of the two waxes to tune to temperature, or even layer up so that when for example the softer AlphaMix wax is done, the BetaMix is below it. PRO TIP - Put a rubber band round the two blocks you want to mix to melt onto the base in equal measure - the 2x35g option is optimised in shape for this :)
  • How many pairs of skis or snowboards can you wax with 150g block of ski wax?
Question asked by Jenus on 04/07/2026 12:10:58
A bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question as it depends on the technicians (your!) waxing experience. We can get well over 30 sets of skis out of single block, starting out you will use too much and maybe do 8-10 sets, but you will learn you are using too much quite quickly as you have to scrape it all off!
  • What is Hydrocarbon ski wax?
Question asked by Jan on 04/07/2026 12:10:19
Hydrocarbon ski wax is a classic all-purpose base wax used to keep bases gliding smoothly due to its ability to be absorbed into the base fibres and its friction reducing properties. Mase from high quality paraffin based ingredients, it reduces friction making every run feel faster, smoother and more enjoyable. It is also a great protector for your ski bases and more environmentally responsible than using a fluoro based wax, still offering great glide.
  • Is BetaMix, UltraMix and AlphaMix Fluoro free?
Question asked by Gus on 04/07/2026 12:09:49
Yes, it is, they are hydrocarbon ski waxes with a small composition of paraffin as used in candles!
  • Can these ski waxes be used on Snowboards?
Question asked by Alexis on 04/07/2026 12:09:25
Yes - Of course, all our waxes are suitable for snowboards, this one especially so. One thing we do hear back is that it leaves a slightly yellow, red or blue hue over white base boards depending on which of these waxes you use. This is because you haven't scraped and brushed it out enough, and because you are looking at your board base rather than putting it down and just riding it!
  • What temperature is Holmenkol BetaMix for?
Question asked by Hugo on 04/07/2026 12:08:58
The wax states a snow temperature of -4 to -14°C. This makes it ideal for Europe during the colder months, and also perfect for Canada or Japan as the snow is finer (Champagne Powder!) so would work well unless its bitterly cold conditions, in which case you would use the Ultra-Mix Blue wax
  • What is the difference between the different Holmenkol Hydrocarbon waxes please?
Question asked by Steve on 03/07/2026 13:02:49
Hi Steve - Great question. All the waxes are hydrocarbon based so no fluorocarbons in them, they are set for different snow conditions and snow temperatures:

AlphaMix: 0°C to -4°C Spring skiing, warmer conditions
BetaMix: -4°C to -14°C Most Alpine holidays, mid to cold conditions
UltraMix: -8°C to -20°C Cold, dry snow such as northern Europe, Canada if cold
DeltaMix: 0°C to -12°C A one-wax solution, proving extremely effective

We will get that information added to the product description page - thank you!

  • What is the melting temperature of this wax please?
Question asked by Nathan on 20/11/2019 14:37:45
    1. For AlphaMix the recommended iron temperature is 115-125 degrees Celcius. We recommend setting you iron at 120. You don't want to go too hot otherwise the wax will start smoking and you want to avoid overheating your ski bases and cores.
    2. For BetaMix the recommended iron temperature is 125-135 degrees Celsius. We always go with 130 degrees ourselves as we find it goes on very easily and smoothly, so running at this temperature reduces wasted wax.
    3. For UltraMix the recommended iron temperature is 135-145 degrees Celsius. Set your iron at 140 degrees an NO MORE as you are getting closer to the temperature at which point the ski may start to delaminate.
    4. For the DeltaMix universal wax, the recommended iron temperature is 125 degrees Celcius.
